Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I hire an interior designer?
Hiring an interior designer is about more than creating a beautiful home. An experienced designer helps you make thoughtful decisions, avoid costly mistakes, manage countless details, and create a space that functions as beautifully as it looks. At Oaked Interiors, we design homes that reflect your lifestyle, maximize your investment, and feel uniquely yours.
What makes Oaked Interiors different?
We believe beautiful design starts with how a home feels—not just how it looks.
Every decision is guided by function, craftsmanship, natural materials, and the way you actually live. Our interiors are inspired by nature, thoughtfully layered, and designed to support your daily routines while creating a sense of calm and connection.
Our founder's background in construction also means we understand what happens behind the walls, allowing us to design spaces that are as practical as they are beautiful.
How long does the interior design process take?
Every project is unique, but most full-service residential projects take anywhere from several months to over a year depending on the scope of work. Smaller furnishing projects may take a few months, while renovations and new construction often require additional time for planning, construction, custom furnishings, and installation. We develop a detailed project timeline at the beginning of every project so you know what to expect.
When should I hire an interior designer?
The earlier, the better. Bringing us into your project during the planning stages allows us to collaborate with architects and contractors before construction begins. Early involvement helps prevent expensive changes later and ensures every detail—from floor plans and lighting to cabinetry and finishes—is thoughtfully considered.
Do you work on renovations as well as new construction?
Yes. We work on both renovations and new construction homes. Whether you're transforming an existing space or building from the ground up, our goal is to create interiors that feel warm, welcoming, and lived in from the moment you walk through the door.
What types of projects do you take on?
We provide full-service interior design for residential homes, renovations, additions, kitchens, bathrooms, and new construction. We also design hospitality, retail, and boutique commercial spaces that balance beauty, function, and memorable guest experiences.
What areas do you serve?
Oaked Interiors proudly serves clients throughout Maryland, Washington, DC, and Northern Virginia, including Bethesda, Chevy Chase, Potomac, Cabin John, Rockville, Kensington, and the surrounding communities. We are also available for select projects outside the region.
Can you work with my architect or contractor?
Absolutely. We regularly collaborate with architects, builders, contractors, and skilled trades throughout the design and construction process. Working together from the beginning helps ensure the project runs smoothly and every design decision is executed as intended.
What if I already have furniture I love?
We love incorporating meaningful pieces into new designs. Whether it's an antique passed down through generations, a favorite piece of artwork, or a cherished piece of furniture, we'll thoughtfully integrate existing items with new selections to create a layered, personal home.
Do I need to renovate my entire home?
Not at all. While we enjoy whole-home projects, we also design individual rooms including kitchens, bathrooms, living rooms, bedrooms, dining rooms, offices, mudrooms, and outdoor living spaces.
Do you only design modern interiors?
No. While our work is rooted in clean lines and timeless design, every project is tailored to our client's personality and lifestyle. We believe great design should feel authentic rather than fit into one particular style.
How involved will I be during the project?
As involved as you'd like to be. We guide you through every major decision while handling the countless details behind the scenes. Our process is collaborative, organized, and designed to make the experience enjoyable and stress-free.
How do you determine my design style?
Rather than asking you to fit into a predefined style, we learn how you live, what inspires you, and how you want your home to feel. We then translate those insights into a home that reflects your personality while functioning beautifully for everyday life.
Do you prioritize sustainable design?
Yes. Whenever possible, we specify durable materials, timeless furnishings, natural finishes, and responsibly sourced products that stand the test of time. We also enjoy incorporating vintage and antique pieces that bring history, craftsmanship, and character into a home while reducing unnecessary waste.
What is your design philosophy?
Our philosophy is simple: function first, beauty always. We believe thoughtfully designed spaces should support wellbeing, encourage connection, and improve everyday life. By combining natural materials, timeless craftsmanship, biophilic design principles, and intentional planning, we create interiors that feel grounded, welcoming, and enduring.
What should I expect during our first consultation?
Our initial consultation is an opportunity to discuss your goals, lifestyle, budget, timeline, and vision for the project. We'll walk through your space, answer your questions, and discuss how we can help bring your ideas to life. It's also a chance for us to determine whether we're the right fit for one another.
Can I bring my dog to our design meeting?
Absolutely! We love meeting every member of the family—including the four-legged ones. Dogs are always welcome during in-home design consultations. In fact, meeting your pets helps us better understand how your home functions and allows us to create spaces that work beautifully for everyone who lives there.
At Oaked Interiors, we believe great interior design should support your entire lifestyle, pets included.
Where do you take on interior design projects?

Do you travel for interior design projects?
Yes. While most of our residential interior design projects are located throughout Maryland, Washington, DC, and Northern Virginia, we happily travel for the right project.
Whether you're renovating a vacation home, furnishing a new build, or creating a hospitality space, we'd be happy to discuss your location.
Can you help with just one room?
Absolutely.
Whether you're redesigning a kitchen, bathroom, living room, primary suite, nursery, home office, or another space, we're happy to help. We also offer full-service interior design for whole-home renovations and new construction projects.
Do you design commercial spaces?
Yes.
In addition to residential interior design, Oaked Interiors designs hospitality, restaurant, retail, and boutique commercial spaces that balance functionality, customer experience, and timeless design.
Will my home still feel like me?
Always.
Our job isn't to design our style—it's to uncover yours. We take time to understand how you live, what inspires you, and what makes you feel at home. The result is a space that reflects your personality while functioning beautifully for everyday life.
Can interior design improve my well-being?
We believe it can.
The spaces we live in influence how we feel every day. Natural light, thoughtful layouts, calming materials, organized storage, and connections to nature can help create homes that reduce stress and support everyday living. At Oaked Interiors, designing for emotional well-being is just as important as creating beautiful interiors.
Why choose a local interior designer in Maryland?
Oaked Interiors is a full-service interior design firm serving homeowners throughout Montgomery County, including Bethesda, Potomac, Chevy Chase, Cabin John, Kensington, Rockville, Silver Spring, and surrounding Maryland communities. We also provide interior design services throughout Washington, DC, Northern Virginia, and select projects beyond the region. Our local knowledge, relationships with trusted craftspeople, and hands-on project management allow us to create homes that are beautiful, functional, and built to last.
What if I don't know my design style?
That's actually very common.
You don't need to know whether your style is modern, transitional, Scandinavian, or traditional before reaching out. Through conversations, inspiration images, and learning how you live, we'll help discover a style that feels authentic to you rather than following trends.
